Opal and her husband Arnold C. Mann (1914 to 1987) have two children.   Patricia M Sobrero, Raleigh, NC, shares her life with husband John S. Sobrero, and daughters, Dr. Gina Evans, assistant professor at Marshall University, Huntington, W VA,  and Rachel Sobrero, Assistant District Attorney, Nashville, TN.  Pat currently serves as Associate Vice Chancellor for Extension, Engagement, and Economic Development, at North Carolina State University.  John retired from Sodexho Marriott in 2001 and now provides English Language Coaching to international students and researchers. Vernon Gene Mann, retired early to take care of Opal during her struggle with ovarian cancer.  He has stayed with her during the past five months nearly non-stop.

Opals closest life long family members were Mary Alice Lee and Troy Lee, Opal’s sister and brother-in-law.  Mary and Troy are neighbors in the Villages, and also best friends.  Orby Hurley, Opal’s oldest brother, lives in Dayton, Ohio, and continues to manage his machine shop even in retirement.  Her youngest brother, Jim Hurley (1944 to 1993) died of lymphoma at age 49 and survived by wife Rozlyn Hurley, who now lives in Elizabethtown, PA.  Jims’ daughter and son-in-law are Caroline and Dr. John Young.  John practices dentistry in Kentucky and they have two children, Jim and Katie Young.

After the death of Arnold in 1987, Opal married James A. Green, June 6, 2004.  They resided in The Villages, in the home Opal designed as her retirement dream home.  Jim has two children, Mary Green and Gordon Green, insurance broker in Falls Church, VA.
Opal passed away in April 19, 2009.
